how to care for beeswax wraps

So here are a few simple steps to care for your beeswax wraps;

1. Keep away from heat

As beeswax wraps are made with beeswax and coconut oil, if the wraps get too hot, this wax/oil mix will melt.

The antibacterial properties of the beeswax is what keeps the food fresh, which is why we want to preserve this as best as possible.

That’s why we don’t recommend popping the beeswax wraps in the microwave or oven. Also try to keep away from any hot stoves or hot pans. If you want to store any left over foods, just wait for them to have cooled down before you cover with your beeswax wrap.

2. Wash with cold/lukewarm water

Just like we don’t recommend heating the wrap up, it’s quite important to wash your wrap with water that’s lukewarm.

In colder water, the beeswax coating will be stiff, providing a stable surface to clean. The wrap will become so hard it will be a little bit like a plate which you can then wash using a little eco friendly washing up liquid.

3. Avoid metal sponges and plastic brushes when washing

All you need is a cotton cloth to wash the wrap. You can add a few drops of water to dampen the cloth and wipe it clean with a little washing up liquid if necessary. (Sometimes you might not need the washing up liquid if you’ve only wrapped a few slices of bread of biscuit in here)

4. Treat it carefully :)

Be gentle! Try not to scrub it too aggressively when washing up, even if you’re in a hurry.

Try not to stretch it - even if it doesn’t quite fit the piece of food (we have multiple size wraps so hopefully there’s a size for anything you need!)

Treating it well will mean that it should last longer, which means ultimately there will be less waste, and hopefully our world will be a better place for us all!
